B-side "Future Never Again" fared similarly with gorgeous high- and low-end production, and from the release, it seemed that Dear had decided to forgo the "Dog Days" formula entirely and instead to concentrate on this very exciting warm acid-house approach. Dear's abrasive debut Kisses EP as Audion only fortified this expectation, the 12-inch bearing the faint hint of a denser, club-friendlier Pan Sonic. In this sense, Backstroke could become even more of a burden to Dear: The album makes it strikingly clear when he's dead on, and when he's miles off.
Beams is the fifth studio album by Matthew Dear. It was released via Ghostly International in 2012. Clash placed it at number 28 on its list of the "Top 40 Albums of 2012". MusicOMH named it the 3rd best album of 2012.
Matthew Dear has released tracks under his given name and a range of aliases including Audion, False and Jabberjaw on the tech labels Spectral, Minus and Perlon. Besides his widely acclaimed artist album 'Leave Luck to Heaven' and 'Backstoke EP', Dear is hot off the back of his new album under his Audion alias on Spectral Sound entitled 'Suckfish', as well as a number of stellar remixes including the club hit 'Geht's Noch?'.
