Commercial Album is an album released by the Residents in 1980. It is commonly considered a follow-up of Duck Stab/Buster & Glen. The album pares down the concept and structure of the average commercial pop song and reduces it to a one-minute redux. It contains a compilation of 40 such sixty-second vignettes.

Duck Stab/Buster & Glen" is one of The Residents albums that I looked forward to hearing after listening to a heap of others that alternate from plain ridiculous to ingenious. This one is hailed as one of their best so it was one I had to indulge in. it opens with 'Constantinople' with that nasal twang on all earlier albums "here I come Constantinople". Okay, it is not too bad, next is creepy weirdness in 'Sinister Exaggerator' and it is perhaps only for true addicts of this band being so oddball. Booker Tease' is a short stab reminding me of "Commercial Album"'s content. I like the guitar and rhythm that is actually a more commercial sound but the brass are unmistakeable as a Residents style of jazz. Blue Rosebuds' is more like Residents with a bubbling synth and deep bass, and the vocals are the same style as on "Commercial Album" that I have grown used to.

The Residents "Duck Stab" 7" is one of the greatest EP's ever recorded by anyone! I used to play "Sinister Exaggerator" to my mates when we were tripping back in the 1970's, to separate the men from the boys!! It was very effective! . so I squalled, "CUT THAT . .

Duck Stab!/Buster & Glen is the fourth (or fifth) album by The Residents. Released on Ralph in November 1978, Duck Stab!/Buster & Glen contains Duck Stab!, a seven-song EP released earlier in the year, as well as Buster & Glen, originally intended as a follow-up EP. Duck Stab!/Buster & Glen started life in February 1978 as a seven-song EP entitled Duck Stab!, which featured songs sung clearly, with discernible (if surreal) lyrics, similarly to the first half of their previous album Fingerprince.

Sandwiched in between Third Reich and Roll, Eskimo, and The Commercial Album, Duck Stab/Buster & Glen hasn't always received the fanfare of other late-'70s Residents material. It's one of the few that isn't a concept album and probably the least experimental of the bunch. Still, it's quintessential Residents' rock - which is to say, it's like nothing else on the planet. Few of the songs last longer than a couple of minutes, and only a few instruments can be heard at any given time

The Residents are considered one of the worlds most unusual musical groups. Having influences and infuencing such artists as Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart, one can only imagine what The Residents sound like.

The Duck Stab tracks are as good an introduction as any to the early Residents (pre Mark of the Mole). Skeletal electronics, bizarre studio effects and occasional interjections on guitar and fiddle from Snakefinger conjure up strange, twisted pictures of disturbed loners on society's margins, and the distorted vocals and twisted nursery rhyme lyrics give them a voice. Nothing will ever seem quite the same again.

Notes

Notes from release:
"The fifth album by The Residents started off its life as a seven-inch vinyl EP of seven songs. The record proved to be a big hit and was soon united with a second unreleased EP, Buster & Glen, to form what you now hold in your hands. Recorded in 1977, this release startled the world's ears with its 'modern-day nursery rhyme' characterization."
