Human Waste is Suffocation's debut EP released by Relapse Records. This was also the first CD ever to be released by Relapse. Infecting The Crypts", "Mass Obliteration", and "Jesus Wept" were re-recorded on the following album, Effigy of the Forgotten. Synthetically Revived" was also re-recorded on Pierced from Within and "Catatonia" was re-recorded for the Despise the Sun EP. The only track that has not been re-recorded is the title track, which was originally recorded for the demo Reincremated.

Following a privately circulated demo, the six-song Human Waste EP was the debut for Long Island thrash/death metal outfit Suffocation. Relatively brief in duration (clocking in at just over 24 minutes), the songs were played at blitzkrieg speeds, tossing out what were traditional song structures even in thrash metal circles, basing the tunes around series of complex riffs that sometimes wouldn't ever reappear, gruff growling vocals, and the occasional breakdown into slothful sludge

The title track Human Waste starts off with that kind of creepy Ahhing usually found in movies, and then breaks into an extremely catchy guitar riff. Mullen’s vocals seem to have switched to a more hardcore growl rather than his usual rock bottom death growl, which actually match the song very well. And though this was a low-budget recording, these cons are much more noticeable on Suffocation’s second album Breeding the Spawn, but that’s a different story. Also, if you are trying to get into the genre of brutal death, this would be a pretty good place to start as it isn’t overly brutal like most brutal death metal, and it is also one of the first recordings of the genre to be released.
