The Rhythm Saints’ debut album, Deep Sustained Booming Sounds, was released in 1994, and was followed a year later by the critically acclaimed Golden. Both explored Chicago and New York house traditions in an energetic style, with lyrics written with much greater dexterity than is the norm for dance music records. Nixon and the Rhythm Saints’ ability to sustain themselves over a full album also distinguished them from their more singles-orientated peers.

This album, coupled with "Graceland", marks a major direction both for the singer/songwriter and sensitive commercial pop music which marries Western sensibilities with the talents of musicians immersed in other cultures.
