The first Vanilla Fudge album was a milestone in heavy rock history. or at least it seemed so at the time. It is still good to listen to today. There are no original songs (unless you count the short "Illusions Of My Childhood" fillers). What it is is slowed-down, Hammond organ-heavy cover versions of recent hits of the time. The big one here was "You Keep Me Hanging On". The Fudge treatment gave a lightweight Supremes tune considerable power and drama. This is what The Fudge did best and, in my humble opinion, their first self-titled album was their pinnacle.
