Dead Confederate is an alternative rock band which formed in Athens, Georgia, United States in 2006. The band consists of Hardy Morris (vocals, guitars), Walker Howle (guitar), John Watkins (keyboards), Brantley Senn (bass) and Jason Scarboro (drums). The band released their debut album, "Wrecking Ball" on September 16, 2008 on Razor & Tie and The Artists Organization. The album includes the single "The Rat".

Consider that a good thing because if they really were trying then Hardy Morris’ signature vocals might be something different, and their sound of grunge, southern rock, and psych/shoe gaze might have never been harvested. I’m not trying to harp on the band because, In The Marrow, their follow up to mini album Peyote People dropped earlier this year, keeps structure and ideas fairly similar, but still manages to craft a solid body of songs.

Despite its bleak, blustery façade, In The Marrow is a pop album at its core, and further testament to how tortured souls often write the sweetest hooks. This is an interesting album, one that will reward repeated listening, but one can't help but think that it's a transitional album, and that Dead Confederate are building to something even bigger and more balanced down the road. Nearly two years after their last full-length album, Athens,Ga. based rock band Dead Confederate is slated to drop their third release on April 16 via Spiderbomb Records/ Redeye. Titled In the Marrow, the album features new drummer . Bower and is set to launch a new touring cycle for the band. In addition, the band is scheduled to play two album release shows. The first will be at Atlanta’s The Earl on April 19 at 9:30 PM (with opening acts The District Attorneys and TeePee) while the second will be at Athens’ 40 Watt Club on April 20 at 10:00 (with opening acts New Madrid and Muuy Biien).
