I got Eider Stellaire's debut about 15 years ago and for a very long time I thought the band had only released one album, so when I found out they had two more I just had to have them, no matter what's the music like. The album was released in 1986, 5 years after their magnificent debut. About half of the original line up is not there anymore and so is the style of the music.

Their live album ‘Vendredi 13’ was issued in fall 2001. With various ‘stop and go’ steps (bankrupt of distributors, financial losses. ), Soleil Zeuhl continued in the 00s, producing both reissues (the complete ESKATON discography, EIDER STELLAIRE 1st album, SHUB NIGGURATH, STRAV. and new talents (SCHERZOO, SETNA, NEOM, CORIM. The crisis of the record market, since 2010 or so, did also hit the label and adjustments were necessary (development of direct sales, drop of nearly all physical shop sales).

Eider Stellaire were one of several French bands that modeled themselves after Zeuhl founders Magma. Unlike Eskaton, Archaia, and Shub-Niggurath, however, they converted Magma's trademark sound into a more instrumental form (though, like Weidorje, they did use vocals sparingly). They released three albums, titled I, II, and III, all of which are fairly well-respected in the Zeuhl community (particularly I).

Eider Stellaire were a virtually unknown act back in their day, and for all intents and purposes, they still are. However obscure they may be to virtually anyone outside of the avant-garde and Zeuhl music circles that the band’s brooding jazz fusion would largely cater to, Eider Stellaire’s debut album is considered a classic of prog music. Influenced by the jazzier explorations of Zeuhl deities Magma, this instrumental fusion act makes an interesting blend of the familiar and strange with this album. It is an apocalyptic gem of cosmic jamming.

EIDER STELLAIRE - Eider Stellaire (1981, LP, France). Eider Stellaire was founded in 1980 by drummer Michel Le Bars which played in Offering. The group had a previous incarnation under the name of Astarte, in which were 3 members of Eider's lineup - Michel Le Bars (drums), Patrick Sinergy (bass) and Jean-Claude Delachat (guitar). This lineup existed for 3 years. They recorded their third and last album called Eider III in 1987.
