Enon's Believo! serves as an adequate example " Right off the bat, Enon thanks their closest musical brethren. Both Les Savy Fav and Enon hammer intelligent art-pop that juices familiar nuggets into fresh shakes. Les Savy Fav bark awkward/winning slogans over zealous future-punk Jenny Steube.

Believo! is a bit of a black sheep in Enon's catalog, even if they've never been a very predictable band. But the group that recorded this album- frontman John Schmersal and former Skeleton Key members Rick Lee and Steve Calhoon- were dispersed before they made it to a second record. Toko Yasuda and Matt Schulz would make up the trio on High Society and onward, and since then they've veered between taut, unpredictable modern rock and strange, moody synth-pop from album to album, rarely stopping at any point in between.

Enon are a group that are truly of the transition from the 1990s to the early 2000s. They dress their eccentric pop/rock songs with the kinds of noises, samples, and bashing oddball percussion that would have been difficult, if not impossible, to achieve with the technology and mindset of even ten years prior to this release.
