Press To Meco is: Adam Roffey, Lewis Williams and Luke Caley. Press To Meco (me-co) have had an incredibly productive twelve months since the release of their self-titled debut EP, playing in excess of 65 shows throughout the UK before retreating to their Croydon practice room to pen the follow-up. Affinity' comes only ten months after its predecessor yet the results are astonishing. Given the band’s relative youth, the maturity shown through their songwriting and musicianship is exceptional.

Ironically, when finding someone to compare them to, I drew a blank. The act have a truly unique pop-mathcore sound that rings through even more on their sophomore album. As the album flows forwards, the bangers continue, with the fragile and acoustic ‘A Place In It All’, which opens up into an uplifting chorus, juxtaposed with ‘A Quick Fix’ and ‘Itchy Fingers’. A Quick Fix’ provides a fantastic polyrhythmic breakdown for the more progressive fans, whilst ‘Itchy Fingers’ shows off the band’s light-hearted and hardcore sides, complete with a fun Nananana nananana na backing vocal.
Press To Meco specialize in pop music, but impatient listeners won’t be finding this out anytime soon. The band’s debut release launches with its least alluring quality- curiously placed progressive metal riffs, which function as a red herring to the group’s true sound. The most vibrant moments of the EP are where Press To Meco’s knack for melody bursts through the otherwise monochrome palette. The greatest example doubles as the album’s strongest song- Wasting Time has enchanting vocal melodies, to the extent that the track would be perfectly fine without any other worthwhile contributions. But Press To Meco still arranges a background of stunning atmosphere, which marries the vocal interplay with an infectious flair. At least the band knows to recognize vocal harmonies as its high points, despite the flat musicianship used to glue them together.
Now Playing: Press to MECO - Acoustic EP Gorgeous stuff. Can't wait for 2000 Trees.
It’s the conversations you have with yourself when you’re caught in a cycle and you’re spiralling out. The song acts as a reminder to not get caught up in the way you think, acknowledge those negative thoughts and bring yourself back to the present
It’s happened time and time again, when the prevailing culture grows stale, colourless, dull and apathetic; the conventional is washed away by new artistic uprisings. For the last few years, three young musicians have taken to the UK roads, playing hundreds of venues (repeatedly) with a diverse range of artists from various musical genres. Press to MECO’ are guitarist/vocalist Luke Caley, bassist/vocalist Adam Roffey and drummer/vocalist Lewis Williams, a trio on a relentless pursuit to harness their sound into a punchy, driving and visceral powerhouse. The build has been gradual and the tide has turned with the Affinity EP enjoying on-going plays and support from Radio 1 Rock Show, Amazing Radio, Kerrang! Radio, Team Rock Radio, a ‘One Night Stand’ XFM session, XFM plays and regular plays on Scuzz TV. ‘Press to MECO’ are now making strong headway.
Press to MECO are one of a number of interesting, slightly off-kilter alt-rock bands bubbling under in the UK at the moment, with their new record ‘Here’s to the Fatigue’ pushing them into ambitious new territory.
