Rickie Lee Jones is the debut album of singer-songwriter Rickie Lee Jones. After arriving in California in the mid-1970s, Jones started taking songwriting more seriously, and by 1977 had met singer-songwriters Chuck E. Weiss and Tom Waits (Jones consequently became romantically involved with Waits).

Rickie Lee Jones "unplugged" - in fact, solo with an acoustic guitar or piano on all but a couple of tunes - Naked Songs is otherwise a retrospective concert album on which Jones cherry-picks songs from her five studio albums, including the hits "Chuck . s in Love" and "Young Blood," and others from her breakthrough debut record. The studio album arrangements always tried to support and augment Jones' idiosyncratic writing and playing style, which sounds less unusual when she is simply accompanying herself, and in many ways more effective.

Rickie Lee Jones was born the third of four children to Bettye and Richard Jones, on the north side of Chicago, Illinois on November 8, 1954. Her paternal grandfather, Frank "Peg Leg" Jones, and her grandmother, Myrtle Lee, a dancer, were vaudevillians based in Chicago. A singer, dancer and comedian, Peg Leg Jones's routine consisted of playing the ukulele, singing ballads, and telling stories.
