Cuban Jam Session, Volume 5 was led by José Fajardo, one of Latin music’s most recognized names at the time. With his pioneering flute playing and infectious energy, Fajardo brought power to the traditional Cuban charanga format. As Tito Puente told his biographer, Fajardo had an incredible orchestra. the drive of the percussion and those damn violins–it was terrific.

FAJARDO Y SUS ESTRELLAS is a afro-cuban jazz music artist. Jose Fajardo was born in 1919 in Pinar del Rio, Cuba, and played the traditional five-keyed wooden flute in a family band led by his father Alberto Fajardo, a clarinetist, and named Orquesta Hilda after his sister Hilda, its pianist. He worked as a policeman in Havana before joining a leading charanga group of the early 1940's, Arcaño y Sus Maravillas, when its leader, the flutist Antonio Arcaño, could no longer play flute.

Another session entitled Cuban Jam Session with Fajardo took place under the direction of flautist José Fajardo in 1957, but only four tracks could be recorded. The album was finished in Miami in 1964  .
