to the Boston Symphony during this decade I always get a sense that the brass section mutinied against the conductor. The trumpeter blasts away uncontrollably and with reckless abandon in the 3rd mvt. Janis in the N. plays fast, but uninspired and didn't seem to have the chemistry he had with the Chicago Symphony. Maybe he wanted to leave in a hurry because of the brass section. It wasn't a bad recording of the Concerto N., just not the best. Nevertheless, this album is absolutely worth getting b/c of the Concerto No. 1. Once again these recordings were digitally remastered from.
