Description

Thelonious Monk Quartet: Misterioso Live at the Five Spot Cafè 1958, Monk in Italy - Thelonious Monk. Открывайте новую музыку каждый день.

Misterioso is a 1958 live album by American jazz ensemble the Thelonious Monk Quartet. By the time of its recording, pianist and bandleader Thelonious Monk had overcome an extended period of career difficulties and achieved stardom with his residency at New York's Five Spot Café, beginning in 1957. He returned there the following year for a second stint with his quartet, featuring drummer Roy Haynes, bassist Ahmed Abdul-Malik, and tenor saxophonist Johnny Griffin.

Thelonious Monk Quartet - Misterioso, JAPAN MINI LP CD (2006) NEW +2 tracks. This Thelonious Monk Live album is one of the great live albums in Modern Jazz history, and Saxophonist Johnny Griffin blows the roof of the 5 Spot, all of these recording from the 5 Spot with Griffin are in my opinion, Griffins crowning achievement. you really are brought into the 5 spot, I can almost envision myself sitting there, Though I would have been there for the music, not necessarily just for a night on the town.

This is the second long-player to be taken from the same August 1958 Five Spot recordings that had yielded the similarly brilliant Thelonious in Action! The quartet heard on these sets includes Monk (piano), Johnny Griffin (tenor sax), Roy Haynes (drums), and Ahmed Abdul-Malik (bass). Their overwhelming and instinctual capacities directly contribute to the powerful swingin' and cohesive sound they could continually reinvent. While these are Monk's tunes, arrangements, and band, it is Griffin who consistently liberates the performances.
