The Navigator is the sixth studio album by American indie rock band Hurray for the Riff Raff. It was released by ATO Records on March 10, 2017. The album was recorded in 2016 at Electric Lady Studios in New York City and Panoramic House in West Marin with producer Paul Butler, a member of the band The Bees. By the end of 2014, Hurray for the Riff Raff had managed to gain a wider audience following the successes of Small Town Heroes.

Riff came along just before vocal groups began to explode again. They were hurt by erratic material and the fact that they were on a label which had little experience promoting urban contemporary and R&B groups (SBK). This wasn't a bad album, and their vocals and harmonies were often superb, but it died on the vine. Now, this kind of thing dominates the R&B charts, and Riff displayed as much ability on this release as Shai, Boyz II Men, H-Town, Intro, or any number of other hot vocal ensembles.

Riff Raff's first (official) album was released in late 73, and engineered by Eddie Offord. The "classic prog" quartet, augmented on a rather permanent basis by guest saxman Beadle, develops a good mix of jazz and rock and the result comes out as more progressive than a Chicago, BS&T or The Flock, but I would not rate it as pure jazz- rock, brass-rock or fusion. With bassist Sutton as one of the main writer (he co-wrote all the tracks on the unreleased debut album) but often in partnership with Eyre, and guitarist Kirtley often contributing, the least we can say is that Riff Raff is a very multi- facetted band.
