Crème de Menthe is a pseudonym for Matthew Aldworth, who wrote, arranged, and produced the music on THE IMPOSSIBILITY OF EROTICISM IN THE SUBURBS. The perfect soundtrack to clubs where leather, spikes, and spankings are the norm, the album is a dose of aggressive electro-pop that takes human degradation as its primary theme. Song titles like "Destroy the Human Race," "Crack the Burning Whip," and "Sadomasochistus" hint at the seamy pleasures on offer, and the cold, pulsing, new wave-influenced electronica only heightens the experience.

The intriguingly titled Impossibility of Eroticism in the Suburbs kicks off with a sound similar to wind blowing through a ghost town (or perhaps the suburbs themselves) before launching into some up-tempo electronica. The musical stylings are reminiscent of the early electronica of the late ’70s through ’80s, but equipped with more modern keyboards and samplers — keeping the sound stripped down but not so raw. The spoken word style vocals only serve tighten this comparison. dark rave-esque — even though in some instances the vocals do. While the album as a whole is predictably catchy, there isn’t much to separate one track from the next. This is perhaps the biggest drawback of spoken-style vocals, in general, a certain generic sound forms and without a great variation in orchestration or composition, as in Crème de Menthe’s case, everything begins to become indistinguishable.

Listening to Crème de Menthe's The Impossibility of Eroticism in the Suburbs, I can't help but slip into a time warp back to Dieter, his monkey, and of course, the "time on Sprockets when we dance. Kraftwerk were obviously the touchstones for the aesthetic of the ostensible German television program - being lampooned for their extremely detached air and plastic veneer  . Given the title of the album, I expected some fun swipes at the stale banality of suburban lifestyles. Unfortunately, Menthe's brush is mostly pointed at those fringedwellers.
