Produced by Charlie Hugall. Album Where the Heaven Are We. King City Lyrics. I wanna be everything that I'm not I wanna be rich, I wanna show off Just a desperado with a sour twist And it'll all come sweet on your lips. Cause I'm in love, so old Put your flowers down, it's too cold Fuck your romance, I wanna pretend That Jenny Lee Lindberg is my girlfriend. Where the Heaven Are We Swim Deep.
Like direct sunlight, though, ‘Where the Heaven Are We’ is best in short bursts. It would be blissful if it wasn’t so unrelenting: however great the songs are on their own, together they're just a bit too too sweet and sunny, with prolonged exposure leading to stickiness and exhaustion. Perhaps it’s a seasonal thing, and all we need to fully appreciate this particular musical heatwave is another long, hard winter. On the other hand, since the album’s last lyric is ‘seems like it’s never getting cold’, it sounds as if Swim Deep will be spending Christmas on the beach.
The Line of Best Fit. Where The Heaven Are We ably showcases their innate knack for massive hooks – it’s a rock-solid debut with something for everyone.
Swim Deep recorded Where the Heaven Are We with producer Charlie Hugall, who has also worked with Florence and the Machine. The band first uploaded a few demos on Soundcloud, "Isla Vista" and "Santa Maria", in 2011. Then in 2012, Swim Deep signed with Chess Club and released their debut single, "King City", in May 2012. After a UK tour with Spector in November/December 2012, the band went to Brussels to record Where the Heaven Are W. .In March, "She Changes the Weather" was released on 7" vinyl and digital download
Birmingham’s Swim Deep are a shoegaze/dream-pop quartet who craft stylised yet not wholly substantial light guitar music. Debut Where the Heaven Are We floats by pleasantly on a stream of airy guitar pop which borrows ideas from the genre’s past but fails to match inspiration with much originality. What’s left is music that is narrowly enjoyable and formulaically solid, yet simultaneously quite empty and derivative. Swim Deep are at their most enjoyable on their singles, which are frontloaded on this LP aside from the triumphant She Changes the Weather.
Swim Deep's inspirations are writ large across their sound and, refreshingly, they’re not really shy about it. There’s more than a dash of the Stone Roses in there, and a pinch of the Smiths. It would appear that they are unashamedly dusting off the sounds of the ‘80s and ‘90s and polishing them up for a modern audience. She Changes The Weather is a psych-pop number doused with piano, one that spares no expense with creativity and represents the term ‘bittersweet’ faultlessly. Equally, tracks like King City have all the qualities of summer anthems.
