Long Yellow Road and the nearly identical release, Tosiko Akiyosi Recital is a jazz trio recording made by the pianist Toshiko Akiyoshi in Tokyo in February 1961. A total of five tracks were recorded at a 1961 February 'recital' in Tokyo and were released by Asahi Sonorama and King Records in various formats and combinations at various times. The first track released, "Solveig's Song", was distributed in Japan as a "sonosheet" (.
Tribute to Billy Strayhorn. One of pianist Toshiko Akiyoshi's infrequent trio dates (she was becoming quite well-known during the era as an arranger and big bandleader), this out-of-print but quite rewarding album features Akiyoshi interpreting eight Billy Strayhorn compositions. Five songs feature her joined by bassist John Heard and drummer Peter Donald, while the remaining three tunes utilize bassist Bob Daugherty and drummer Jeff Hamilton. Toshiko Akiyoshi (秋吉 敏子 or 穐吉 敏子 Akiyoshi Toshiko, born 12 December 1929) is a Japanese jazz pianist, composer, arranger, and bandleader. She has received fourteen Grammy Award nominations and was the first woman to win Best Arranger and Composer awards in Down Beat magazine's annual Readers' Poll.
