Hard Candy (Madonna album). Hard Candy is the eleventh studio album by American singer and songwriter Madonna. It was released on April 19, 2008, by Warner Bros. The album was her final studio album with the record company, marking the end of a 25-year recording history. Madonna started working on the album in early 2007, and collaborated with Justin Timberlake, Timbaland, The Neptunes and Nate "Danja" Hills. The album has an overall R&B vibe, while remaining a dance-pop record at its core

Hard Candy is the 11th studio album by American singer-songwriter Madonna. It was released on April 19, 2008 by Warner Bros. The first single from the album, "4 Minutes" has Justin Timberlake and Timbaland singing in it. It went on to top charts around the world and reached number three on the US Billboard Hot 100. The second single, "Give It 2 Me", has vocals from Pharrell Williams of The Neptunes. It reached the top ten in Canada and the UK.

However, for Hard Candy Madonna decided to collaborate with producers and artists who were already well-known. Talking to MTV, Madonna explained her decision to collaborate with well-known producers: "Because they're good, and I like their shit. I loathe this album. Madonna has always worked with the biggest names in the industry, but this is the point in her career where she dropped the "look what I can do" and started shoving into people's faces the "look who I know," coming across as a desperate attempt to stay relevant with the younger generation (which, in my opinion, also describes her subsequent albums). While I do somewhat enjoy a couple of songs - mainly 'Miles Away' - the rest of this album, to me, sounds like empty, over-produced, vacuous garbage. And this is coming from a lifelong Madonna fan.

My copy is blue and pink, not marble. The sound quality is awful, sounds like a bootleg. Don't pay for this, the CD sound much better, is only good as a collectible item.

The sound quality isn't perfect, but it's not bootleg quality bad. At the very least, I notice far less clipping on the last two songs compared to the CD and digital versions. That alone is a big improvement.

Hi there I have also just bought this vinyl and mine are blue and pink. Keep in mind that if you are using a new record player it may not be the best quality as mine is jumping on disc one side b. I think it's the low cost player tho. My bad! In researching a bit more into the releases of this vinyl it looks like the candy swirl vinyl were released in the U.S and exported to some European countries. The blue and pink vinyl seem to have been the first UK release of this vinyl and were sold in hmv. Making the blue and pink vinyl rarer than the swirl edition! Hope that helps. Scott

I have purchased this box from the first day it has been released. When i opened the box the first thing that i found out was that it contains 2 cd, not one. Both of them have the same Matrix / Runout Z69525 M1S4 1 440444-2 TEXT 02 and the same track listing, too. I do not know if the sound has some difference, i doubt! I still have the box, with the 2 cd inside, in my possession. Does anyone experience the same? I wonder if this was a manufacture mistake or not!Otherwise, this is a great album! Love it!!!!!

Is there any info as to why some copies were pressed with plain blue/pink vinyls? Are these limited to certain areas? Are they rarer or more common than the candy swirl versions? etc...

As far as I can remember, the marble effect vinyls were issued in USA, and the plain blue/pink were issued in Europe (or vice versa)

So there is another mispress of this album on vinyl, i have this mispress but with all tracklisting the same as the album but the vinyl is this color.

As it was with "Confessions...", Madonna changed her style again, ma non troppo. It still sounds like... Madonna! Recording with mainstream artists such as Justin Timberlake, Timbaland and Kanye West it was not as fantastic as "Confessions..." but it is still a great album. You can easily hum songs like "Candy Shop", remember the 80"s with "Heartbeat", "Beat Goes On" or "Dance 2night" and of, course, dance to the hits "4 Minutes" and "Give It 2 Me". "Devil Wouldn't Recognize You" is a wonderful song, too. And as a bônus disc, two cool "4 Minutes" remixes. I like blue/White and pink/White colors on the discs. It's a hard candy for my vinyl collection. :-)

I agree with many others who say that this is her worst album. The tracks just doesn`t have the quality like all the songs from the 80s, 90s and some actual ones but there are 2 or 3 I like from this album. And the sound quality from "Hard Candy" is awful. There`s so much distortion in many tracks (CD and vinyl as well). I don`t know if they didn`t had enough money for good equipment or whatever. I can`t imagine that it`s wanted.The only reason why I bought this album was I liked the coloured vinyl.Anyway, Madonna is a real icone and for me she will always be a great singer.

Well, the album's mellodies are actually good, but the current typical "modern R&B" (or whatever you call it) music arrangement spoils the overall impression. I would say its the worst Madonna's album out of her 11 main albums together with "American Life". American and British public doesn't really like this album either. It would be her worst selling album in USA -"Gold" 0.5 million. In UK its her worst selling album ever - 100k - "Gold" so far. For comparison "Conffesions" sold in UK alone 1,2 million copies.

I particularly like the songs Heartbeat, Miles Away and Devil Wouldn't Recognize You in this album. Although it sounds like the current genre of music now bordering on Hip Hop and Synth-pop categories, she still managed to maintain her originality in those three songs, primarily recognizing the very talent that shot her to fame during the 80s. Everything else? They're not as signature Madonna songs as much as the three songs I mentioned. When I listened to the whole album, I was looking for that "TRAILBLAZING" music talent that distinctly made her the 80s icon - her originality. Unfortunately, you will only get to hear that - again - on the three songs that I listed here. I like the way this album was produced though - in candy coloured blue/white and pink/white vinyls. Aesthetically perfect for my vinyl collections.

She always delivers her goods but 'Hard Candy' is such an embarrasment to listen to. For someone like Madonna it is amazing how all the money and technology in the world provide results this weak and faceless... undoubtedly, her worst album in years. And yes - some reasons lay in the fact Justin, Timbaland and the rest helped ruining herself. Of course, this still carries the fact Madonna is some 'queen' of pop very close to a deserved retirement. Fascinating how she looks and all the energy but making and album of 'Nutrasweet' confections certainly wasn't what everyone (if anyone) expected. Someone already wrote - 'Hard Candy' sounds like Madonna guests on her own album. Very expendable and forgettable. Avoid. 'The beat goes on' but not on this album. 0/10
