Meow the Jewels is a studio album by Run the Jewels. It’s actually a remix of Run the Jewels 2 using only cat sounds for the beats. Many thought it was a joke, but when the first single, Meowrly – a cat sound remix of Early from RTJ 2 – it became clear that Mike and El weren’t joking around. Run the Jewels 2 is the second studio album by American hip hop duo Run the Jewels, which consists of Killer Mike and El-P. Run the Jewels 2 received widespread acclaim from critics for its darker and more layered production, Killer Mike and El-P's lyricism and chemistry and its guest contributions.

Run the Jewels, also known by the initialism RTJ, is an American hip hop duo consisting of rapper/producer El-P and rapper Killer Mike. They released their acclaimed debut studio album, Run the Jewels, as a free digital download in 2013. This was followed by Run the Jewels 2 in 2014, which was also praised by critics. Their critically acclaimed third album, Run the Jewels 3, was released digitally in December 2016 with a physical release the following month.

If purrs do indeed have such powers, Run the Jewels' new cat-sampling remix album could very well be the most physically restorative record ever made-there are a lot of fucking purring sounds on this thing. Before it became an IRL curio featuring the production talents of everyone from Prince Paul and Dan the Automator, to members of Portishead and Massive Attack, to hip-hop heavies Just Blaze and the Alchemist, Meow the Jewels was merely another LOLcat goof. It's easy, and not wholly inaccurate, to dismiss Meow the Jewels as a well-meaning wisecrack that went several steps too far. Even El-P himself told Deadspin, I would never even insult the world by saying 'good,' but it's certainly the high-water mark for cat-sound records, I think.

Meowrly" adds purrs and meows aplenty to the BOOTS-produced Run The Jewels 2 track "Early," but without going overboard. With thanks to a Kickstarter campaign, that money was raised and then some to make it happen.
