A Place to Bury Strangers were formed in 2002 by David Goffan and Tim Gregorio. Current frontman and guitarist Ackermann had moved to New York following the disbanding of his previous group, Skywave, to join APTBS, and become the primary songwriter after the departure of Goffan. A Place to Bury Strangers is the first album from the shoegazing band A Place to Bury Strangers. Most of the songs were recorded between 2004 and 2006 and were released as series of ad hoc EPs which were sold at shows by the band. The band came to the attention of Killer Pimp owner Jon Whitney in late 2006 and he asked if he could have the songs remastered and release them as an album on CD. The band deliberated over whether this would be a good move for some time before finally agreeing. To Fix The Gash In Your Head" appears on the Nine Inch Nails online release Lights In The Sky, which contains music from the opening acts (including A Place To Bury Strangers) of some concerts of that tour. The band started to gain attention after their performance at Webster Hall with The Brian Jonestown Massacre in 2006. By 2007 they signed a contract (on a napkin) with Killer Pimp Records, followed shortly by the release of their first album A Place To Bury Strangers. That same year they set out on tour with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club’s Holy F k tour. Their shows have always had a performance art edge to them and they have taken this direction more and more with time and tonight they turned it up a really, really big notch. They delivered all the smoke, lights and feedback in the world and then some. Some moments you really wondered if you were going to get hit by flying guitar debris as they smashed them into the ground!!!!
