The Essex Green is a band you don’t hesitate to recommend to your friends-innocent, faintly psychedelic, and disarmingly melodic, the Brooklyn trio fashion carefree indie-pop that feels not unlike a warm spring breeze through your hair. The album often feels cerebral and off-kilter, and its dreamlike ambience at times turns nightmarish.

Apparently the band noticed, too: On Cannibal Sea, the Elephant 6 progeny who once insisted, "I'll see you in the '60s," come to terms with pace era, though without straying too far from their cherished influences. They're still cheery and hook-laden, although- apropos of the times- a little less innocent, a little less free

Cannibal" Sea is the band's third full-length, and delivers infectious hooks in a very immediate way - its hard not to fall in love with each and every song upon first listen. Rubber Soul" is an obvious touchstone, but "Cannibal Sea" doesn't feel like a rip-off. It's all very simple: sweet male, female harmonies over guitar-based pop, with a few folksy tracks thrown in for good measure. Much like Rilo Kiley's "More Adventurous," "Cannibal Sea" has sleeper hit written all over it. - - Michael D. Ayers.

BOND BOND
Since it was never released on vinyl, it’s not really a reissue.

How is the sound quality? I'm considering picking it up.
