Sound Patterns (1961) is a musical piece for a cappella mixed chorus by Pauline Oliveros. Oliveros won the Gaudeamus International Composers Award in 1962 with this work. Rather than a traditional text, the work is constructed of phonetic sounds chosen on the basis of their timbre.
The album starts with a thirty second vocal solo of a female, who demonstrates her operatic skill. Then the two and a half minute title track kicks in with a grinding bass rhythm. A high note guitar hook blares in like a battle charging bugler. Slam, slam!" "It's back to your roots with our radio playing, a song with no rules!" The drums sound off with a thunderous frenzy. Chaos Sound is fifteen songs that last for about thirty four minutes. Most of the tracks go for about two and a half minutes. They seem to happen so fast, that you almost miss it, if you're not paying attention. As far as the funny factor, sure they exhibit comical hairdos, but their material isn't as humorous as the Suicidal Tendencies'. So maybe they're more like a street punk band in that regard. The album title is over hyped and exaggerated. Chaos Sound didn't sound nearly as crazy as We Are All We Have, which was much rawer and grittier.

Propaganda is an album by English post-punk band the Sound. It was recorded in 1979, before they recorded their debut album Jeopardy, and comprises the earliest material that they recorded. It was not released until April 1999 by record label Renascent, more than 10 years after the band broke up. It was viewed by the band as their true first album. Re-recorded versions of three of the tracks appeared on Jeopardy: "Missiles", "Night Versus Day" and "Words Fail Me".
The album is therefore easy to disappear into, and lengthy, winding songs like Nesting Behavior and Hold Your Own Hand are the entryway. The submersing atmosphere is the work of the instrumentation, from the simple, frail sound of the plucked mandolin to the bigger orchestral arrangements. The release is an exploration of genre as well, pairing the deconstruction of math rock with the quiet moods of folk. The through-line of the album is Kristine Leschper’s voice, which trembles on the edge of breaking throughout.
