Jamal Moss aka Hieroglyphic Being will release his definitive solo album of 2016 – The Disco’s Of Imhotep – via Ninja Tune’s Technicolour imprint on 5th August. He has built a sterling reputation both as a producer and live performer of deep, mesmeric experimental electronics and free jazz rooted in his native Chicago and his relationship with the city’s fertile underground club scene. He balances his ancient heritage and musical DNA with a passion to experiment, create and channel music as a healing force, which has resulted in his art being tagged Afrofuturist. Moss, however, prefers to describe his output as Synth Expressionism, Rhythmic Cubism and would rather be viewed simply as a promoter of Nubian Rights. Describing The Disco’s Of Imhotep he says

The Disco’s Of Imhotep is the latest in Jamal Moss aka Hieroglyphic Being’s ever expanding body of work, which he collectively calls synth expressionism or rhythmic cubism. Combining elements of experimental electronics, acid house and free jazz, the Chicago-based producer has previously released on his own Mathematics imprint as well Soul Jazz/Sounds Of The Universe and RVNG Intl, which put out his collaboration with Sun Ra Arkestra leader Marshall Allen. This latest album, out tomorrow, is being handled by Ninja Tune off-shoot Technicolour.

The album is a reinterpretation of the soundtrack of the musical of the same name. Lead vocals are usually duets between lead singer Milan Fras and guest collaborator Boris Benko of Silence. The album was well received by critics.

Best known as Hieroglyphic Being, Chicago native Jamal Moss is one of electronic dance music's most fearlessly experimental artists. In 2015, Hieroglyphic Being collaborated with the Sun Ra Arkestra's Marshall Allen, drummer Greg Fox, vocalist Shelley Hirsch, and several other musicians under the name . Ahn-Sahm-Buhl, producing the album We Are Not the First. the album received much acclaim from the underground music press. Also that year, Soul Jazz Records reissued The Acid Documents, which was previously a limited CD-R release from 2013. In 2016, Soul Jazz released KMT, the debut full-length by Africans with Mainframes, Moss' long-running project with Noleian Reusse.
