Personal Jesus (оригинал Depeche Mode). Личный Иисус (перевод ). Reach out and touch faith. Your own personal Jesus. Someone to hear your prayers.
Due to its release six months before Violator appeared, not to mention the fact that Depeche's American fan base was reaching critical mass, the EP release of "Personal Jesus" became the biggest selling 12" single in Warner Bros. history up to that point. It's not too hard to see why - outrageously but perfectly fusing the aesthetics of clinical synth sheen, funky breakbeats courtesy of stomping on travel cases and looping the results, and bluesy, twangy guitar, it's an instant classic from the band.

Personal Jesus is the first single and third track on Depeche Mode’s seventh and most successful album Violator. It peaked at in the US, reached the top 20 in six countries overseas, and became Warner Bros. Records' biggest-selling 12" single in its 40+ year history, surpassing the biggest names on its roster such as Madonna, Prince, George Harrison, Fleetwood Mac, Van Halen, and others. Rolling Stone named Personal Jesus as one of the 500 greatest songs of all time in 2011
Martin Gore of Depeche Mode said: "It's a song about being a Jesus for somebody else, someone to give you hope and care. It's about how Elvis was her man and her mentor and how often that happens in love relationships - how everybody's heart is like a god in some way, and that's not a very balanced view of someone, is it?" Johnny Cash did a stripped-down version on his 2002 album American IV, The Man Comes Around. Martin Gore revealed to The London Times that the band were unaware that Cash had covered this song . Personal Jesus has nothing to do with the Christian Jesus. This song doesn't have to do anything with pedophiles either. It's just about having someone you can always rely on and trust.
