This is how we all dream that 70s sounds. Or at least me, because this album shows exactly most of ingredients that makes Prog so interesting. Showcase, shopping window of Golden Prog Era. It's all instrumental, so this may be problem for some, but I personally can appreciate it even more.
Autumn's album 'Oceanworld' is a largely undiscovered slice of esoteric 70s prog, recorded in 1977 .
2. Some Like It Crunchy. 3. Little Finger Excercise. This Mini Album represents the only recordings made by the highly-progressive instrumental band AUTUMN. Recorded in 1977 & 1978 they have been lovingly restored by the band themselves to their original form. There have been no added overdubs since they were made. Tracks 1, 3, 4 & 5 Recorded 2. ept 1977. Track 2 Recorded 28/29. CEDAR Cedared with loving kindness by Gorden Reid. 1999 Autumn Records.
These five tracks were recorded in September 1977 and May 1978 by a quartet known in England as Autumn. With the abrupt decline of progressive rock, the tapes remained on the shelf while band members enjoyed musical careers with groups like the Enid, Hawkwind, and Steve Hackett. In 1999, the tapes were cleaned and Oceanworld was independently released. The progressive rock community discovered an unsuspected gem that would have become a minor classic of the genre, had it been released in 1978
Recorded in 1977 and 1978, Autumn's 'Oceanworld' was an unashamedly ambitious and symphonic instrumental album totally at odds with prevailing late '70s trends. Left unreleased until 1999, the 36 minute release possesses a highly romantic and very English quality, containing influences from Progressive (Genesis, Yes, Enid, Hackett) and Fusion (Return To Forever) musics. A truly fascinating 'hidden history', Autumn included Nick Magnus (Steve Hackett, The Enid) and Robbie Dobson (The Enid, Hawkwind) in its ranks. A Prog Rock masterpiece.
