of traditional European-based opera. The soprano voice is obsessed with punctuated single tones, or, by contrast, bizarre melisma.

Neither is the only opera by Morton Feldman, dating from 1977. Its libretto is a 16-line poem by Samuel Beckett. Composer and librettist had met in Berlin two years earlier with plans for a collaboration for Rome Opera, but in their encounter Beckett had told Feldman that he himself did not like opera, and Feldman had echoed Beckett’s sentiment, so that the work emerged in Rome as a setting for soprano soloist only, accompanied by orchestra

Morton Feldman, Samuel Beckett 컬렉션을 완성하세요. This article may seem very subjective to the reader, but for me this only opera of Feldman is one of the most interesting "dramatic" work in the 20th century - standing besides the operas of BA Zimmermann, Schoenberg, Henze or some other composers. Providing simply one actor and no dramatic line, sure it was not much accepted from the original audience in Rome in 1977. The "libretto" is the 16 line work of writer Samuel Beckett - and this collaboration of equal-minded Beckett and Feldman is also very interesting. I prefer this recording with Zoltan Pesko.

Morton Feldman: Neither by Raul d'Gama Rose, published on August 7, 2011. and no libretto; just 87 words by the poet and playwright, Samuel Beckett, set down on a page as if it were poetry. While there is a distinct drama in the presentation of the words and music, the absence of theater is palpable. However, there is an almighty intensity that arises from the deeply emotional manner in which words and music are unraveled. In fact, when the Beckett's poem is sung, albeit in truncated fashion, it most mimics the absent aria; even if its composer, the celebrated Morton Feldman, intended this.

Neither, opera (1977).
