Chris Montez and others from this era such as Herb Alpert, Petula Clark, Dusty Springfield, Sergio Mendes and Tom Jones will remain with me forever. This compilation of the two phases of Chris Montez' career was a welcome find, since no domestic CD existed and his LPs have been out of print for years. The Monogram cuts (1962-1964) showcase his phase as a protege of Richie Valens or aspiring Latin rocker. I've always enjoyed the organ part on "Let's Dance," which compensates for a relatively weak vocal.

Chris Montez (born January 17, 1943) is a Mexican-American singer. Initially known as a rock n roll artist, Montez became one of the most important chicano rockers following the tragic passing of Ritchie Valens, his mentor. Montez had a hit in the US with the 1962 single "Let's Dance". 1963 also saw the release of Montez's only album on Monogram, Let's Dance and Have Some Kinda' Fun!!!. Shortly before Monogram folded, Montez was paired up with Kathy Young, releasing two singles as the duo Chris & Kathy, most notably surf rock classic "Shoot That Curl". While at Monogram, Montez wrote, or co-wrote, several of his own songs, such as "Chiquita Mia", "Let's Do the Limbo" and "No No No".

Chris Montez (born on January 17, 1943 in Los Angeles as Ezekiel Christopher Montanez) is a Mexican-American singer. He is best known for his hit song Let's dance. Christopher Montanez was on 17 January 1943 in Los Angeles born as the youngest son in a family of 20 children and grew up in Hawthorne, California. Of his brothers, he learned to play guitar. In his teens he was sitting on the same high school as The Beach Boys. In that time he became a fan of Ritchie Valens.

Montez returned to the recording studio in 1965, this time at A&M Records. The title single from the album, sung in a soft, very high tenor range and played on primarily adult-formatted radio stations, confused some disc jockeys, who were unfamiliar with Montez's past work. The song became enormously popular and has been used many times in movies, notably Frantic, starring Harrison Ford.
