Ceremony is a 1969 album by progressive UK rock band Spooky Tooth in collaboration with French electronic and "found-object" composer Pierre Henry. The album takes the form of a church service. Despite the project being instigated by Gary Wright, the album is considered by him to have ended the band's career. The album is described by another as being "one of the great screw-ups in rock history" we did a project that wasn't our album.

Creation in concert: Palais des Sports, Toulouse, 5 December 1970. Creation as a spectacle: Palais des Sports de Bruxelles, 8 October 1971. This date back from 1970, and it's obvious that it sound today as fresh and innovative than in the day of its première. Pierre Henry has created here what would later be called electronica : weird minimal beats liberated out of groove and evolving through a life of their own, twisting around, rejuvenating themselves at each turn, and never giving the listener the opportunity to be lost or bored by these abstracted figures.
Pierre Henry, a composer whose experiments with electronically manipulated sound helped create the style known as musique concrète and anticipated the innovations of techno, died on Thursday in Paris. He was 89. His death was announced on social media by Le Groupe de Recherches Musicales, an organization devoted to musique concrète. He absorbed rock influences as well, most notably in his Mass for Today, written with Michel Colombier for a ballet by Mr. Béjart. Mr. Henry later worked with the British progressive rock group Spooky Tooth on the 1969 album Ceremony, which takes the form of a rock ’n’ roll church service, and with the Violent Femmes on his 1997 album Intérieur/Extérieur and on their album Freak Magnet (2000).

Pierre Henry is the father of musique concrete, and pioneered most of the recording techniques musicians use today. His reputation outpasses the frontiers of pure classical and French musics. Pierre Henry is a spiritual leader for generations of artists who still enjoy the discoveries and the daring and visionary experiments of the composer.
Pierre Henry was born in Paris in 1927. He never went to school; his teachers came to his house. Being of feeble health he had to do gymnastic excercises and perhaps that is the reason that he developed a strong feeling for rhythm. In 1944 he studied at the conservatory; piano and percussion with Passeronne, composition with Nadia Boulanger and harmony with Olivier Messiaen. A few years ago its echo was to be heard in the background of a house music record. Anyway, it enabled Henry to make a good deal with the Philips label. Although always following his own path, Henry has never been a solitary closed man.
