There’s a point early on in Within A World Forgotten where I swear I hear cackling. Every time I hear it, it’s like a deadly spell has been cast and the flames suck me in. It happens every damn time I listen to Infernal Coil's debut album. Each, it’s a strange reminder of how remarkable this album is and how weirdly listenable this record is-how much there is to unearth on this record. Some of you might remember Dead In The Dirt. If you’re not acquainted, I’m sorry.

Another track that stands out on Within a World Forgotten is the closing track, In Silent Vengeance. Along with 49 Suns, the track utilizes more of the ambient overtones throughout the album while also having the blast beats and fast riffing, giving themselves variety where it’s needed. The debut offering by Infernal Coil’s lead single Crusher of the Seed does work as a sneak peek of what the album has to offer, and works as the perfect single; not the best song on the album, not the worst song on the album, but a song that truly foreshadows the album’s overtones, ferocity and abruptness.

Within a World Forgotten seems to have infinite volume, to come from every point surrounding you at the same time. Every impact of the drums shakes a piece from your body. You simply cannot parse everything Infernal Coil are doing at once. You cannot predict what will happen next, whether that be a shift in the drums or the sudden snap that sends 49 Suns into eerie calm. It seems impossible for you to understand. That’s why it’s frightening. That’s why it’s addicting. That’s why I have come back to this album again and again. It speaks to a fascination with and fear of the certainties of the future. The acknowledgement of absolute mortality without any idea what mortality really is.
