Big Maybelle was a singer who should be far better known than she is today. This is also a really good album. The material Savoy Records gave Big Maybelle between 1956-59 ranged from straight up R&B to covers of jazz and older popular songs ("Great American Songbook" material but also including tracks like "I Ain't Got Nobody" which has been covered by artists from Louis Prima to David Lee Roth), as well as several tracks of . Handy covers which were. probably intended for an album along the lines of "Big Maybelle Sings .
