Within Temptation is a Dutch symphonic metal band founded in April 1996 by vocalist Sharon den Adel and guitarist Robert Westerholt. Resist is the seventh studio album by Dutch symphonic metal band Within Temptation. It was scheduled to be released on December 14, 2018, but because of production problems, it was released on February 1, 2019.

Resist is the seventh studio album by Dutch symphonic metal band Within Temptation. It was scheduled to be released on December 14, 2018, but later postponed to February 1, 2019 due to production problems. The album contains guest appearances by singers Jacoby Shaddix (Papa Roach), Anders Fridén (In Flames) and Jasper Steverlinck (Arid) and was produced by their longtime producer Daniel Gibson. The album marks the longest time gap between the band's releases at five years.

Resist Album Artwork. When I read that, my heart sank, and I braced myself for a pop collection that sounded like an identity crisis. But that’s not what Resist is. Perhaps the iconic, instantly recognizable sound of den Adel’s remarkable voice and emotional inflections are strong enough to harness the new production and sounds and bend the entire thing into the body suit of Within Temptation. In fact, Supernova, which contains synth lines that made me think of the Tron 2 soundtrack, is far more pop than metal. There will be Within Temptation fans that don’t appreciate this shift. And others who welcome it. You can’t please everyone.

Within Temptation have announced their new album, Resist, which is due for a Dec. 14 release. This will be the longest gap between albums of Within Temptation’s career, primed by a personal crisis of inspiration from frontwoman Sharon den Adel. This year, den Adel launched a solo project called My Indigo following a string of events leaving her unable to create a new record for Within Temptation. When I came back from the tour last time, I went to the studio, like I always do when I come back from a tour, and I wanted to write music again, new stuff.

Within Temptation’s transformation has revealed a pop metal juggernaut and one that isn’t afraid to be as bold and fun as possible. That’s not to say Resist is a perfect record. The inspirational lyrics can be a bit much when taken in full, and the album’s second half gets a bit more ballad-heavy (to its detriment). However, there are no dud songs, and vocalist Sharon den Adel has never sounded more assured.

Within Temptation’s previous album, 2014’s Hydra, ushered in their most successful chapter yet, landing career-high positions in charts around the world including the UK (6), the US (16) and their homeland (a return to Number 1, after previous opus The Unforgiving just missed out).
