What Lasts Pennsylvania native Keith Kenniff’s output as Goldmund has established him as one of the preeminent composers of minimal piano-based ambient music alongside peers like Hauschka, Dustin O’Halloran, and even Ryuichi Sakamoto, who himself once described Kenniff’s work as so, so, so beautiful.

13 April 2018 ·. My new album "Occasus" is officially out today. The release of an album is always a strange feeling of elation. I've spent the last three years living with these pieces, diving in and stepping out of them. Each represents a moment in time for me, and now it's time for me to close this chapter and release this music into the moments of other's lives.

Occasus doesn't abandon the fragile, atmospheric pianos, but it's a bit darker and cloudier than usual for Goldmund, edging a bit closer to Kenniff's ambient electronic work as Helios. Tracks like "Above" are augmented by a faint trace of shoegaze-like distortion, while "Bounded" and "Circle" are bathed in a wave of tape hiss. There's no shortage of tranquil, uplifting pieces like "Migration," but "No Story" and "Terrarium" unexpectedly inject elements of suspense and fear into the Goldmund sound.

☆☆ ~ Remarkable album. I feel engaged with this consistent and deeply satisfying music in a wholly compelling unique way. 2mo. Or consider a donation? Track List.

Hyperbolic as it may sound, Goldmund’s newest collection Occasus may be his most exquisite ye. The title is apt in more ways than one: while the emotional tone of the album denotes bittersweet feelings of conclusiveness, it also perfectly soundtracks the quiet moments when we look up to the sky, and humbly relearn the smallness of our lives as cosmic objects churn slowly overhead with bewitching indifference. Occasus feels deeply personal, private, and hushed yet simultaneously grand, colossal, and profound. Remarkably Kenniff is able to capture micro and macro with equal fidelity.

Anyone else having issues with this pressing? My copy came with huge plastic residues around the edges, and part of those were solidified into the first grooves of the record, causing huge pops during the first minute or so.Rest of the copy is also plagued with clicks and pops. Terrible, terrible pressing. It's a shame, because the music is terrific and the vinyl looks great.

Mine came shaped perfectly yet there are some three pops and some clicks, while there's this strange noise on the left channel of Side A, which is bizarre and a shame. It is not the worst sounding LP I own and certainly not the best sounding one.

Nothing necessarily new but a solid moody album of tranquil piano pieces. Very nice ambient elements floating in and out of the compositions. Fans of Otto Totland and Harold Budd take note.
