Thematically, Achtung Baby is darker, more introspective, and at times more flippant than their previous work.

In 1992, Bono described Achtung Baby as 'the sound of four men chopping down The Joshua Tree' while Jon Pareles of the New York Times wrote that 'stripped-down and defying its old formulas, U2 has given itself a fighting chance for the 1990's'. The album won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance and became one of the most significant records of the nineties and of U2’s career.

Few bands as far into their career as U2 have recorded an album as adventurous or fulfilled their ambitions quite as successfully as they do on Achtung Baby, and the result is arguably their best album.

That is not the case with the 2018 remaster, issued on vinyl, in a remaster that was directed by The Edge, with remastering engineering by Scott Sedillo, and the Audio Master Transfer directed by Declan Gaffney. Also included is a single double sided sheet with the album lyrics. The vinyl is accompanied by a digital download card which will allow users to download the tracks included on the vinyl, in wave format.

It was released on 26 October 2011 as a pack-in CD with the December 2011 issue of Q (issue The magazine commissioned the album to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Achtung Baby's original release and Q's 25th anniversary.
