Jean Stafford (born 1 January 1950 at Latrobe, Tasmania) is an Australian country music artist. She has won three Golden Guitar awards. In 1989 Stafford was crowned "Australia's Queen of Country Music" by Smoky Dawson. Stafford has received many honours and awards, including the key to the city of Nashville, Tennessee. Stafford was also a regular on the Midday Show hosted by Ray Martin. Coming to prominence during the 1970s and '80s, she learnt her craft singing at hotels, country halls and dances. She wrote two more novels in her career, but her greatest medium was the short story: her works were published in The New Yorker and various literary magazines. For the academic year 1964-1965, she was a Fellow on the faculty at the Center for Advanced Studies of Wesleyan University. Stafford's personal life was often marked by unhappiness.
