The Beach Boys are an American rock band formed in Hawthorne, California, in 1961. The group's original lineup consisted of brothers Brian, Dennis, and Carl Wilson; their cousin Mike Love; and their friend Al Jardine.
In short, this set looks and sounds amazing and for a band who already has an impressive number of 'Hits' collections, this one stands head and shoulders above all the rest
In 1999, after it was certified 2x platinum by the RIAA it was decided to create sequels to the original collection, so the release was updated accordingly to reflect this change. The updated version was re-issued on September 21, 1999, the same day that its sequel, The Greatest Hits – Volume 2: 20 More Good Vibrations appeared
1999 Re-Release with newly remastered tracks. All selections are presented in their original single mixes, except 'Catch A Wave' which is presented in its original mix from the mono 'Surfer Girl' album. All selections are mono, except 'Kokomo' which is stereo.

Since the Beach Boys had too many hits to fit onto one 20-track collection, it made sense to have two separate 20-track discs, but the dividing line is arbitrary. For its three quarters, Greatest Hits, Vol. 1 appears to be a straight chronological trawl through the hits, beginning with "Surfin' Safari" and running through "Barbara An. Upon close inspection, a number of major songs - "Surfin'," "Shut Down," "In My Room," "Don't Worry Baby" - are missing, yet that portion of the album plays very well
Combined with Vol. 1, this offers an excellent portrait of the Beach Boys as a singles band, which was always their strength in the '60s.
The Greatest Hits, Vol. 2: 20 More Good Vibrations. The three-volume Good Vibrations series is designed with the hits-hungry fan in mind. Eschewing a strict chronological approach, the best-of sets are arranged according to charting position. Thus the initial collection is laden with the group's trademark tunes, ranging from the California boys' first top 10 charter, 1962's "Surfin' Safari," to their last, 1988's "Kokomo," a stray, post-Brian Wilson success.
