Listen to About the Blues from Julie London's About The Blues for free, and see the artwork, lyrics and similar artists. Julie London (Nancy Peck, September 26, 1926 – October 18, 2000) was an American jazz and pop singer and actress. She was noted for her smoky, sensual voice and languid demeanor.
About the Blues is an album by Julie London that was released in 1957. The album includes two songs written by Bobby Troup, her husband. Miles Davis recorded a version of one of them, "The Meaning of the Blues". The eighteen-piece band was arranged by Russell Garcia. Julie London - vocals. Willie Smith - alto saxophone. Maynard Ferguson - trumpet. Barney Kessel - guitar. Shelly Manne - drums. Russ Garcia - arranger, conductor.
Here is Julie London's fondly-remembered 1957 album 'About the Blues', crisply remastered by the good people at Blue Note Records. Next to her 1960 album Around Midnight, this is probably my favourite London platter. Ms Julie always sounded at her best with this kind of laid-back, sensual jazz and blues material, and she doesn't disappoint here. Numbers like "Basin Street Blues", "Meaning of the Blues", "Shadow Woman" (totally CLASSIC London), and "Invitation to the Blues" are all given solid readings.
