Description

Apparently about Hugh& trip to Morocco.

These were black and white times. There was no space for being in the middle. Everything was polarised. The cover of the album summed it up, the band scowling- they never looked cooler, more menacing. Flip the album over and things got a whole lot darker- at least a year ahead of Joy Division and the new dark the Stranglers were wandering into some very black territory here. Side opener œCurfew’ was a manic and compulsively ugly look at an apocalyptic future with music to match, œThreatened;’ just stank with a weird paranoia and an obtuse lyric and delivery from JJ, In the Shadows’ was a hint at JJ’s soon to come solo album that was getting recorded at the same time (the solo album, by the way, is genius

Responder Notifique-me Helpful.

Of the first three Stranglers albums, Black & White is arguably the weakest, yet it still has some absolutely stunning moments. For example, the epic "Toiler on the Sea" picks up where "Down in the Sewer" and "School Mam" left off on the band's two previous efforts

The Stranglers are an English rock band who emerged via the punk rock scene. Scoring some 23 UK top 40 singles and 17 UK top 40 albums to date in a career spanning four decades, the Stranglers are one of the longest-surviving and most "continuously successful" bands to have originated in the UK punk scene. Formed as the Guildford Stranglers on 11 September 1974 in Guildford, Surrey, they originally built a following within the mid-1970s pub rock scene. Meanwhile, the band received a mixed reception from some critics because of their apparent sexist and racist innuendo.

Hanging Around live in studio in black and white. The Stranglers- Enough Time from The Album Black & White. The Stranglers - Down in the Sewer From the Album Rattus Norvegicus.

Black and White is The Stranglers third studio album and was recorded within 18 months of their debut Rattus Norvegicus. Produced by Martin Rushent and engineered by Alan Winstanley, the album is divided into the Black side and White side, each nominally characterised by the style and mood of the songs which they contain. This release sees The Stranglers adopting a more experimental approach to song structures and time signatures (for example, "Curfew" features 7/4 time).

36 years ago today, the Stranglers released their third album, Black and White, an effort which remains tied with its predecessor, No More Heroes, 1977’s as the highest-charting of their career, making it to on the UK charts. Apparently not wanting to mess with a good thing, Black and White was – like the two albums that came before it – produced by Martin Rushent, and it provided the Stranglers with another top-20 single in Nice ‘n’ Sleazy.

Five albums out of their prime period. I wouldn't want to be without their first two, but the first one here BLACK AND WHITE is a masterpiece and maybe their best of all. Dark and complex, the first half (white) rocks and the second half (black) broods and warns.
