Gordon Anderson's second . release (actually his fourth album overall) as Lone Pigeon is a zany but sunny folk-rock record that fits equally well with late-'60s West Coast pop and contemporaries like Super Furry Animals. There's a lot of Syd Barrett and Kevin Ayers in these quirky songs, especially whimsical tracks like "Brown Cow," but also a joyfully bittersweet, even Lennon-esque innocence on something like "Rainbow.

Lone Pigeon is the working name of Gordon Anderson, a Scottish musician and co-founder of The Beta Band (which was formerly known as The Pigeons). Later he was a member of The Aliens with John Maclean and Robin Jones from The Beta Band. Anderson was a founding member of The Beta Band, and co-wrote several of their early songs including "Dry the Rain" and "Dog's Got a Bone". Ill-health forced him to leave the band and return to Scotland, and he began to record solo under the name Lone Pigeon in 1997.

Lone Pigeon, Schoozzzmmii. As visitors to any city square will testify, there's no such thing as a Lone Pigeon, but Gordon Anderson's recording name signifies the break from his former life. Anderson was a pivotal component of the Beta Band, before fleeing the coop to find a less pressurised environment in Fife. The parallels with Pink Floyd refugee Syd Barrett are innumerable but Anderson is flourishing, not fracturing.
