The Rill Thing was Little Richard's comeback album after a three-year hiatus on new albums. Utilising yet another new sound, the largely country rock album contained Little Richard's biggest post-Specialty single in "Freedom Blues", which broke the Billboard top 50, and a lesser success with the follow-up single, "Greenwood, Mississippi", which made the top 90; although the tune made number 56 on Cashbox Black Singles.

Written-By – R. Penniman. Written-By – Hank Williams. The greatest comeback album you'll ever own. After years of struggle he finally did it HIS way : all contemporary yet good for the '50s purists too! His voice is amazing throughout.

Though the album received a great deal of critical praise at the time, it stiffed commercially, failing to chart and lobbing its two singles shy of the top-40. The world may not have been ready for the second coming of Little Richard, but as this reissue attests, he continued to be a vital singer, songwriter, pianist and arranger whose power and vision weren't stuck in the past. Though he could have repeated his 1950s hits on the oldies circuit forever, he continued to more forward artistically, even if the market didn't take notice.

My true belief about Rock 'n' Roll-and there have been a lot of phrases attributed to me over the years-is this: I believe this kind of music is demonic. A lot of the beats in music today are taken from voodoo, from the voodoo drums. If you study music in rhythms, like I have, you'll see that is true. I believe that kind of music is driving people from Christ. Now playing: Ava Max Sweet but Psycho.
