Description

Environmental Studies by African Head Charge, released 01 January 1982 1. Crocodile Hand Luggage 2. Dinosaur's Lament 3. Beri Beri 4. Snakeskin Tracksuit 5. High Protein Snack 6. In A Trap 7. Breeding Space 8. Primitive 9. Latin Temperament Second album from 1982 that saw African Head Charge working manipulated and vari-speeded 1/4 inch tape loops that were re-recorded back to the multi-track, soaked in reverb and delay, and then applied to the performances of the musicians, not to mention extensive use of found sounds and field recordings, hence the title.

Complete your African Head Charge collection. Mastering sounds great, fantastic album. Quality control issues though, I've gone through 3 copies (replaced by the seller). All 3 have had some level of non-fill on B3-B5 and a few spots on side A (sound degradation more noticeable on the side A bits, especially in saxophone highs); side B bits are not severe).

Environmental Studies – . /10. A year after their debut, African Head Charge released their second album Environmental Studies allegedly named after the Producers passing interest in the subject as school. Again working as a collective the album drew on the talents from members of The Slits, The Pop Group, Aswad and Rip Rig & Panic amongst others. The sounds of distant drums were created by Sherwood positioning speakers and microphones in the stone built toilets at Berry Street making it literally the only place it could have been recorded.

2 of the 3 records have come new out of the wrapper with audible, visible scratches through one or more tracks (not scuffs or light, non-audible scratches, but definitely audible, heavier scratches).Definitely worth buying but it's highly suggested you buy from somewhere that will allow non-hassel returns. Of the 4 U-sound reissues I've bought, all have had some QC issues like this, while also sounding great in the unaffected areas. Update 10/10/16: replacement #4 came in without any issues. Sounds great. Not so much luck with"Drastic Season", returned 3 times, all four discs have some issue. The retailer let me keep 2 of the 4 copies, worked out that each had one good complementary side. YMMV.
