I give a 2 for this second Tony de Vit Global Underground CD. I think the first is better to be honest (Tel Aviv), but they are pretty much identical in terms of genre and style. Very hard hitting and fast techno or "Nu-Energy" according to some people. The two reasons why it can't get higher than a 3 are: (1) It's too dated. It sounds old, because it is old. (2) It's a dance mix. This isn't something that works in your car or listening to at home, it's only meant for a club and nothing else.

LOL, of course... no-one would EVER want to re-live a club experience at home - everyone knows that those cassette and CD mixtapes we bought back in the 1990s were only intended for use as bookends! In 1997, this was underground club/rave music; it may have dated by 2012 (hardly surprising, 15 years is a very long time in club/rave land) but one thing we can be sure of: hard house was way better (and hardly mainstream yet - it was still derided as being "only gay music" by many back then) in 1997-2000 than it ever was around 2010! Show me all the post-2005 hard house so-called "classics" and I'll show you some real ones.

Some 90s music ages really well, some doesn't. Hard house does not age well, especially when it has some really cheesy elements to it.Yeah it's a bit subjective. The harder genres, hard house, hardcore, hardstyle, whatever, they're all club music and its hard for someone like me to try listening to it casually. But that's not the main gripe I have. It's just that this music sounds really dated

Off course it is meant to be played at home as well, why not ? What can be better than creating an atmosphere of a club in your home ? Is home only for chill outs ? This evaluation of yours is very subjective, as it works perfectly for me in a home and in a car as well !Dated you say, why shouldn't it be, it's from 1997 after all. I'm sure that in 1997 it sounded more fresh than anything else around !This is one of the best and most inspiring energy house mixes in history buddy. Agree that first was better, but this one is no way 2 out of 5.

By far my favorite Global Underground compilation mixed by the legend that is Tony De Vit. Not just two separate mixes but a 2 hour session in the original style. This mix really shows how clever hard house can be - not just "hard", but very stylish, diverse and beautiful, in the same way that techno, house, progressive house and other styles do. The progression is very clever and so is track selection. Most tunes are "Trade" style hard house from the key labels including Tripoli Trax, Chug'N'Bump, Shift Recordings and others. Starting from Dave Randall's techy "Bombay" and then building and speeding up, smooth and slowly. With each new tune introduced properly the mix grows in energy, going up 15 bpm in two hours and ending at almost 150! I also admire the mixing technique that is used here, absolutely classic. There's a lot more to say about this mix really, a must have for every hard house fan! 5/5

Agree on every word ! Most representing review so far.

Really a very unimpressive and unispiring mix considering all the things I had heard about Tony De Vit prior to purchasing this mix. This mix is quite old and shows it age through most of the 2 CD's that it encompasses. The track selection seems particularly poor as there is little variety to the sound that is featured. All of the songs are very hard, "in your face" house tracks that make this set sound incredibley boring. A lot of the vocal samples are so chessey they make me want to hit my head on the wall, easily the weakest GU realese. 1 out of 5.

Not liking this cd could be caused by the habit of head hitting on the wall in general but surely not after. I give this review 0 out of 5 !
