A true Japanese jazz holy grail album, this 1975 album was made solely as a business card for an influential businessman and only a few hundred were known to be pressed. Deep modal jazz, frenetic, fizzy and energetic, these five tracks are some of the most coveted and sought after songs from the Japanese jazz golden age.

Tohru Aizawa Quartet - Tachibana (Album Sampler). 8 months ago 8 months ago. Jazz & Blues. The album, Tachibana, was recorded in 1975 and, until included on the J Jazz compilation, was unknown except to a small group of obsessive Japanese jazz collectors. The privately pressed record was the only album made by the Quartet, four amateur musicians who were university students at the time. The session was financed by a local businessman, Ikujiroh Tachibana, who pressed up a few hundred copies to use as a business card. In the intervening 40 odd years since its recording, few copies have surfaced, making it an in-demand yet elusive artefact from the golden age of Japanese jazz.

Thanks for the link to the scans! The copy I found was without the sleeve and I was looking to print something out and stick it on a generic sleeve just for a bit of flavour.

Heavyweight J Jazz killer - private press, was used as a business card by owner of the venue at which the LP was recorded. Deep modal spiritual jazz.
