Alejandro Escovedo (born January 10, 1951, in San Antonio, Texas) is a Mexican-American rock musician, songwriter, and singer, who has been recording and touring since the late 1970s. His primary instrument is the guitar. He has played in various rock genres, including punk rock, roots rock and alternative country, and is most closely associated with the music scene in Austin, Texas. In 1999, Escovedo contributed to a tribute album to Skip Spence, a co-founder of Moby Grape, who was critically ill with cancer. The album, entitled More Oar: A Tribute to the Skip Spence Album, was intended to raise funds to address Spence's medical bills. The title refers to Spence's only solo album, Oar (Columbia, 1969). A Man Under the Influence is the fifth studio album by American singer-songwriter Alejandro Escovedo, released on April 24, 2001 on Bloodshot Records. It was produced by Chris Stamey. Billboard wrote that A Man Under the Influence was "the best studio performance Escovedo has ever delivered". Similarly, Joshua Klein wrote in The .
The veteran roots-rock songwriter Alejandro Escovedo's only full-length studio album for Bloodshot Records, the label that helped revived his career in the late '90s, is the first studio album that comes close to capturing the combination of grace and fire that define his live performances.
A Man Under the Influence. Those lines hardly tell you everything there is to know about Alejandro Escovedo's songwriting, but he's rarely expressed his key themes with such strength and concision as he does in the first verse of "About This Love," and while Escovedo's fifth studio album, A Man Under the Influence, doesn't stray far from the musical and lyrical themes that have. dominated his previous work, he's rarely (if ever) put the pieces together quite as well as he does here
