Complete your Woody Herman collection. Its a good and loud swinging album with some great Sax solos. Too many of Woody's contemporaries at this time were wasting away in a sea of Muzak in a desperate attempt to still sell records. While Woody and his band are playing the current hits they are doing it in legit fashion. This is a real deal big sounding jazz band wailing out these 'toons and in some places showing up the originals. The opener "Pontieo" could score a '60s Bond Movie while the next song up "Here I am, Baby" is payed with some true funk soul and would class up and Tarantino score

Go to artist profile. Woodrow Charles Herman (May 16, 1913 – October 29, 1987), better known as Woody Herman, was an American jazz clarinetist, alto and soprano saxophonist, singer, and Big band leader. During his lifetime, he led some of the most exciting big bands of the twentieth century. His bands changed styles and approaches to jazz but still managed to keep their musical integrity. Herman was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

This particular LP dismayed many of Herman's longtime fans, because it found his orchestra performing such numbers as "Macarthur Park" (before Maynard Ferguson discovered it), "Light My Fire," "I Say a Little Prayer" and Smokey Robinson's "Here I Am, Baby. Richard Evans contributed the arrangements and two originals including "Impressions of Strayhorn," a feature for Herman's alto and clarinet. The other soloists include tenors Sal Nistico and Frank Vicari.
