Gebhard Ullmann, Achim Kaufmann. The ever-productive reed musician Gebhard Ullmann has dropped his third and fourth releases for 2016 at the same time. Geode boasts 12 new improvisations performed by Ullmann on tenor saxophone and bass clarinet and Achim Kaufmann on piano and Marbrakeys adds vocalist Almut Kühne to the same lineup for 10 jointly-composed tracks. Geode was recorded in a chamber music hall in Berlin and it finds Ullmann and Kaufmann playing off one another wonderfully.

The piano player Achim Kaufmann is the recipient of one of the highest jazz awards in Europe for 2015 - Albert Mangelsdorf award. The reed player Gebhard Ullmann has been the recipient of many awards during his 30 years' career. Amazingly, these two great improvising artists have never played together before. They recorded in the beautiful chamber music hall of Berlin radio.

Born on november 2, 1957 in Bad Godesberg, Germany Gebhard Ullmann has recorded close to 60 CDs as a leader or co-leader. He received numerous awards for his work and is listed in the Downbeat Critics Poll since 2005, 2015 for the first time in three categories. Between 2002 and 2018 seven of his CDs were listed in Downbeat Magazine among the best CDs of those years.
