The Harder They Come is the soundtrack album to the iconic film of the same name, released in 1972 in the United Kingdom as Island Records ILPS 9202. It was issued in February 1973 in North America as Mango Records SMAS-7400. It peaked at on the Billboard 200. Content. The heart of the soundtrack comes from performances by the film's star, reggae singer Jimmy Cliff. Throughout the 1990s, Grooverider released tracks as Codename John and helped build the reputations of Matrix and Boymerang with releases on his own record label, Prototype. In 1997, Grooverider compiled the album, Prototype Years which featured the best tracks by various artists who appeared on his label.

The Harder They Come series on Renegade Hardware was just fantastic. Renegade Hardware built on the 'Ardkore revival sound that they wre already doing nicely with their Aftermath LP. RH were just on fire at this time. I had no idea this CD was going to be so lousey, I mean it was Grooverider whom I had recently enjoyed at a mega DNB party at NYC's Roseland Ballroom. Then again this mix CD was so bad maybe it wasn't grooverider.

The Harder They Come is the soundtrack album to the film of the same name, released in 1972 in the United Kingdom as Island Records ILPS 9202. Only the title track "The Harder They Come" was recorded by Cliff specifically for the soundtrack, with three earlier songs by Cliff added

The Harder They Come. Johnny Too Bad - The Slickers. 8. 007 (Shanty Town) - Desmond Dekker. there are way too many dull, lifeless and uncreative filler tracks on here, disc 2 is better as it always is with grooverider compilations but the quality of the tracks given on this compilation is just too low. this was when renegade hardware were in their transition phase between essential rewindz and four elements, needless to say those 2 compilations are absolutely magical

Being a Rave and D'n'B fan I just love this comp - even in the final days of 2012 it still sounds fresh and full of energy, with the production adding personality and humour, rather than stripping the music of its soul. Contrary to the previous reviewer, I actually really like the liberal use of FX - the last track on Disc 2 is just beautiful - the various FX add extra dimensions of breaks and make the track feel really loose and fluid, just like the original breakbeat tracks that were all about moving the audience, rather getting their makers onto the cover of Future Music, or whatever. Considering how much modern-day DJs rely on software, loops, cue-points and FX, you might even say that Grooverider was a pioneer of this sort of mixing, so all respect to him for creating this superb mix. 10/10.

The Harder They Come series on Renegade Hardware was just fantastic. Renegade Hardware built on the 'Ardkore revival sound that they wre already doing nicely with their Aftermath LP. RH were just on fire at this time. I ended up loving the 3 3/12" Harder they Comes so much I opted to buy this mix CD which I really didn't have to. Well that was a big mistake. I had no idea this CD was going to be so lousey, I mean it was Grooverider whom I had recently enjoyed at a mega DNB party at NYC's Roseland Ballroom. Then again this mix CD was so bad maybe it wasn't grooverider. Afterall the mixing sounded like it was some 16 year old noob DJ with an effects box who just bought a bunch of Renegade Hardware records. If the mix really was Grooverider then he was having way too much fun with his effects box and has no idea how bad he made the mix sound with it.
