Trio → Live is a live album by Pat Metheny, released in 2000, recorded with Bill Stewart and Larry Grenadier. It was recorded as a live complement to the trio’s studio album Trio 99→00, released the same year. It was recorded live during 1999 and 2000 on tour in Europe, Japan and the United States, and was co-produced by Steve Rodby.

The Charlie Byrd Trio. When Charles was 10 his dad taught him the acoustic steel guitar. After a while, the family played on radio shows, including his bass playing brother Joe who would eventually become a member of the Charlie Byrd Trio. In his teens, Charlie attended the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and played in the school orchestra before joining the Army in 1943. Born in Suffolk, Virginia in 1925, Charlie Byrd grew up in the nearby Tidewater community of Chuckatuck.

This leads the trio to go off the rails, devolving as time marches on. "Bells" strikes a deeper chord in the mind and heart. Ribot's thoughtful guitar work leads to stirring ideas, but Grimes' solo leads to a more curious path. A slice of Americana arrives near the midway point of the song, with eets-bluegrass allusions, giving Ribot and company new material to twist and contort. It's odd to say that fairly direct interpretations of standards could be a surprise on a jazz album, but such is the case here
