Tirzah Mastin’s debut album Devotion is a compelling vision of what imperfect pop music can be-joyful in both sound and feeling precisely because both seem so out-of-step and asymmetrical. Tirzah began to hone this vision in 2013 when she released I’m Not Dancing, an EP of eccentric dance-music ballads she made with the British producer and composer Mica Levi.

Devotion is the debut studio album by English recording artist Jessie Ware. It was released in the United Kingdom on 20 August 2012. Production for the album came primarily from Dave Okumu of alternative rock band The Invisible, alongside Julio Bashmore and Kid Harpoon.

For her most intriguing album to date, Tirzah mixes experimental electronic tones with powerful R&B soul for an album that sounds like few others. Though it may feel like a massive and daunting step now, we’ll likely be looking back to this album as a turning point in the genre later.

I got that album then, finally swayed by its moody, sweeping third single Home, and when I went to university that September I remembered how much I'd liked I Feel You and picked up 'Songs Of Faith And Devotion' on a freshers' fayre second-hand music stall

It took Depeche Mode a decade to make the world-dominating album they’d been aiming for since the first synth squiggles of their debut record bounced out of speakers. They stumbled at first, checking in with zippy synth-pop singles buried in crushingly boring LPs. Several albums - and regrettable ‘80s haircuts - later, they finally nailed down a formula that was part alt-rock bluster, part synth-goth excess and part clubland beats.
