Description

Kurt Weill ● Bertolt Brecht - Die Dreigroschenoper - L'Opera Da Tre Soldi ‎(LP, Album).

Mack the Knife" or "The Ballad of Mack the Knife", originally "Die Moritat von Mackie Messer", is a song composed by Kurt Weill with lyrics by Bertolt.

Die Dreigroschenoper (Weill, Kurt).

The first of these, ultimately released as Lotte Lenya sings Kurt Weill, was made during her first visit to Germany since being forced out by the Nazis in 1934. By the time of the January 1958 sessions for Die Dreigroschenoper, Lenya found herself widowed once again; second husband George Davis collapsed and died of a heart attack three months before the session, just like her first husband.

Weill: Threepenny Opera (Dreigroschenoper) & Berlin 1930 Songs & Chanson Audio CD. Lotte Lenya. This historical recording of the original cast of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill's Threepenny Opera is a must-have. Included are two songs from their Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny, two songs by Marlene Dietrich and three other amusing cabaret songs from the 1930s. The album has been remastered, Die Dreigroschenoper, and expanded to include 5 bonus tracks. One person found this helpful.

The Dreigroschenoper premièred at the Theater am Schiffbauerdamm in Berlin on 31 August 1928 with Harald Paulsen as Macheath, Roma Bahn as Polly and Lotte Lenya as Jenny. Kurt Weill deliberately wrote the music so that it could be sung by actors, and not by trained opera singers (see below, Weill, p. 578). The Dreigroschenoper exuberantly exposes the hypocrisy of bourgeois morality and the justice system.
