Drop Out with The Barracudas is the debut studio album by English rock band The Barracudas, released in 1981 by record label Zonophone. The US version released on Voxx Records with an alternative cover features a revised track listing, replacing Campus Tramp with Surfers Are Back. Jeremy Gluck – vocals. Robin Wills – guitar, vocals. Nick Turner – drums, vocals. Additional personnel. John David – production, mixing.
The Barracudas are an English surf rock band formed in late 1978. The band's original line-up consisted of Jeremy Gluck (vocals), Robin Wills (guitar and vocals), Starkie Phillips (bass and vocals) and Adam Phillips (drums). Before the band recorded its first single, Starkie and Adam Phillips left the band. The band is notable for their 1980 hit single "Summer Fun", which started with an excerpt from a 1960s spoof advertisement for the Plymouth Barracuda campaign.
The Barracudas pushed a Southern California surf-rock image on their debut - there's the cover photo for one, and then there's a good chunk of the songs. Titles like the demi-hit singles "Summer Fun," "California Lament," "On the Strip," and "Surfers Are Back" are self-explanatory, while the campy "His Last Summer," detailing one dude's final big wave with Brit-accented asides, has got to win an award for being one of rock's best fake-tragedy stories.
